Thayer's Accident

Info on great-grandpa Thayer just keeps coming. I was able to get my hands on an article from the Saginaw Evening News way back in 1905 about an accident he was in as a teenager. Big thanks goes to a former colleague of mine at the Public Libraries of Saginaw for sending it to me!


Thanks to this article, I learned that Thayer was a messenger boy at age 15 - never knew that before! I also found an old picture of the Vincent Hotel that was taken in 1905, the same year of Thayer's accident. 


Being able to see the hotel as it was in 1905 is just so cool! It really helps bring Thayer's childhood to life for me.

It's been a very long time since I posted here. I've been taking breaks from research because I keep running into brick walls. I even let my Ancestry membership lapse since I felt like I shouldn't be paying the money when I wasn't logging in regularly. But something about springtime always makes me want to dive back in to genealogy. Maybe it's because spring is a time of year when I feel more energized and motivated in general. Eliza, George, Alzina, William

My favorite Michigan genealogy website, seekingmichigan.org, has just added more death certificate images - woohoo! I immediately started searching for any ancestors who may have died between 1921 and 1947 hoping to strike genealogy gold. And strike I did, in the form of my great-great-great grandmother Eliza Rich. To break it down: Eliza was the mother of Ida, my great-great-grandmother Ida was the mother of Viola, my great-grandmother Viola was the mother of Doris, my grandmother Doris was the mother of Janice, my mother. Eliza has interested me for some time. Years ago, I saw a picture of her in a photo album that used to belong to my grandmother. After she passed, my mom kept the photo album.
