Viola in Canada
When my great-grandma Viola lived in Windsor, Ontario, she was a hard-working teenager. In 1911 at the age of 17, she was logging 60 hours a week as a bottler at a drug factory. 60 hours a week filling pill bottles - yikes! Her little sis Gladys worked the same job, but she "only" worked 54 hours a week. They each made $280 per year.
Viola and Gladys, along with their other sisters Amanda, Bertha, and Eva were all living in Windsor with their mom Ida, stepdad John, and grandma Eliza. The address on the census is 167 Wellington Avenue. I tried to find the present day location of the house and could not, so I wonder if Windsor street addresses underwent renumbering at some point.
Here's a picture of Viola looking pretty in a white dress and safari-style hat. I don't have a date for when this was taken but I think it was maybe around 1915 based on her clothes.
