Ida and Charles, 1888

Ida Rich and Charles A. Tyrrell were married on Friday, November 23, 1888, in Port Huron, Michigan.  Pastor John McEldowney officiated. (Methodist)

Ida was only 16 years old. Charles was 21 and a farmer in Oil Springs, Ontario. Back in 2012, Jason and I spent a day in rural Ontario exploring a cemetery where dozens of his ancestors are buried. I wish I'd known then about Oil Springs and having my own ancestors there, because it's only a ten-minute drive from Dawn-Euphemia where we spent the afternoon.

Beyond the names and dates. What would a 16-year-old bride have worn on her wedding day to a farmer? Did they get married in the church? At a home? What were the bride and groom's feelings on that day - excited, nervous, happy, resigned? What was the weather like on that day?
