Alexander Tyrrell

Alexander Tyrrell is my great-great-great grandfather on my mom's side. He was married at least twice. His first marriage was to Elizabeth S. (Norton) Tyrrell and his second marriage was to Maggie Jane Tyrrell.

Death of Maggie Jane - unknown

Death of Alexander - March 30, 1912 - 104 years ago today. Cause of death was gangrene to the right leg. His death certificate lists him as a widower so I guess that means Maggie Jane died sometime between 1910 and 1912 (she was still in the 1910 census and married to him).

Alexander was a farmer born in Canada (some sources said Vermont) in 1839. No kids with Maggie Jane, just kids with the first wife Elizabeth. Among those kids was Charles Alfred Tyrrell, my great-great grandfather.

Alexander was buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw, Michigan. No grave marker (a lot of my ancestors don't have markers),

It's been a very long time since I posted here. I've been taking breaks from research because I keep running into brick walls. I even let my Ancestry membership lapse since I felt like I shouldn't be paying the money when I wasn't logging in regularly. But something about springtime always makes me want to dive back in to genealogy. Maybe it's because spring is a time of year when I feel more energized and motivated in general. Eliza, George, Alzina, William

My favorite Michigan genealogy website, seekingmichigan.org, has just added more death certificate images - woohoo! I immediately started searching for any ancestors who may have died between 1921 and 1947 hoping to strike genealogy gold. And strike I did, in the form of my great-great-great grandmother Eliza Rich. To break it down: Eliza was the mother of Ida, my great-great-grandmother Ida was the mother of Viola, my great-grandmother Viola was the mother of Doris, my grandmother Doris was the mother of Janice, my mother. Eliza has interested me for some time. Years ago, I saw a picture of her in a photo album that used to belong to my grandmother. After she passed, my mom kept the photo album. It was a blurry picture taken outdoors; Eliza was standing in profile, looking off into the distance.
